Supporting Veterinary Doctors and Trackers in Gir

Home to 523 Asiatic Lions, the Greater Gir Landscape is the last remaining repository of this charismatic cat on earth. It also provides refuge to leopards, wild cats, jackals, hyenas and more than 200 species of birds.

Sharda CropChem and WCT joined hands to support Gir’s brave veterinary doctors and trackers who are the backbone of the reserve’s protection mechanisms. These individuals play a crucial role in monitoring wild animal numbers and providing care to injured animals. They also intervene in human-animal conflict situations, risking their lives to rescue and relocate large carnivores such as leopards. It is a challenging job and the government does not provide adequate remuneration to them.

Thanks to the generous support of Sharda CropChem, WCT was able to contribute to an honorarium fund for vets and trackers in Gir.
