About Campaign (2012-13)
The Wildlife Conservation Trust (WCT) is the implementation partner of the "Save our Tigers" Campaign yet again.
Like in Phase-I, WCT will ensure that the funds collected at the 12-hour telethon (scheduled to take place on NDTV 24x7 on Sunday July 15, 2012) are utilized effectively to safeguard the immediate future of the Tiger by strengthening the protection mechanism of both the core and buffer zones of tiger reserves.
Last year was particularly difficult for the tiger, with reports of 54 tigers deaths with at least 16 falling prey to poaching (Source: Traffic). This year 36 tigers have already lost their lives between January and May 2012!
In Phase-I of the "Save Our Tigers Campaign" WCT has made a humble effort of conceptualizing, designing and providing the Rapid Response Unit (RRU), a conflict resolution vehicle, to 30 tiger reserves across India with the help of generous donations from the citizens of India. In Phase-II, the campaign moves one step closer to assisting the creation of the ‘Tiger Defense Units’ (TDUs) in important tiger reserves across India.
