Rajaji National Park should be made a tiger park

December 11, 2011: The Rajaji National Park should be made a tiger park considering the rising big cat population and the fact that a thriving prey base and healthy environment makes it an ideal habitat for both predators and herbivores. The World Bank programme director for the Global Tiger Initiative (GTI), Keshav Varma said this while talking to The Pioneer on the sidelines of the international conference on eco-engineering for connecting wildlife corridors.

Jumbo controversy: experts conduct DNA test on circus elephant

December 10, 2011: A team of wildlife experts from the Punjab Wildlife Department today conducted the DNA test on an elephant here at the Jumbo Circus, following allegations against the circus authorities of being allegedly involved in illegal animal trade. The report of the test would be ready in a month and till then the circus authorities have been asked to make available all records pertaining to the elephant.
