WCT is committed to creating awareness about the critical issue of illegal pet trade and the rising demand for exotic animals in India as pets. As part of its #TrappedInTrade campaign, WCT has been organising awareness talk sessions for students in different colleges in Mumbai and Bengaluru over the past few months. On February 4, 2023, WCT organised a talk for the zoology students of Royal College, Mumbai, in collaboration with ‘Royal College Nisarg Nature Club’. WCT President Dr. Anish Andheria delivered an educational talk to an audience of nearly 100 students on the problems of illegal trade in exotic wild animals and the perils of keeping wild animals as pets. He further spoke about the dangerous ramifications of the illegal pet trade on biodiversity, ecosystems, and people and the intense cruelty involved. An hour-long talk ended with an extended Q & A session with a highly responsive audience.

The #TrappedInTrade campaign is focused on the serious issue of the growing demand for exotic animals in India and the urgent need for stronger wildlife laws for better regulation of trade in exotic species in the country. It is necessary to create awareness among the masses and sensitise people to the stark truths of the brutal live animal trade.
